General Description: Field and office work in reading water meters and recording and evaluating water consumption.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
In a field environment, reads water meters on an assigned route and records readings. Makes special readings as required. Checks to see that meters are functioning properly and reports any defects to a supervisor. As assigned, responsible for verifying meter information in the field against billing meter information. Information and office account support of meter reading.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to gain knowledge of the geography, and navigate street locations, of the County. Ability to write legibly.
Ability to make simple arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public
Ability to accurately use a handheld processor and a tough book computer to record meter information.
Training will be provided.
PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and also push or pull heavy objects. May use a handling device (dolly, cart, etc.) or work with another team member to lift and/or move excessively heavy objects. Constantly, required to bend, stoop, squat, and walk from 8-15 miles per day in all types of weather. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written and visual communication.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Two (2) years experience working in the field entering data in to handheld and laptop computers which may include public contact.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver's license.
