Key Responsibilities: • Maintenance and Repairs: Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on water, sewer, and stormwater systems, including pipelines, pumps, valves, hydrants, and manholes. • Inspection and Troubleshooting: Inspect and diagnose problems in utility infrastructure; identify malfunctioning equipment and determine repair needs. Conduct pressure and flow tests. • Emergency Response: Respond to utility service disruptions, including water main breaks, leaks, sewer overflows, and stormwater drainage issues, ensuring quick and effective solutions to minimize disruptions to the public. • Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols, ensuring compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards, and assist in training others on safe work practices. • System Monitoring and Operation: Operate utility system equipment such as backhoes, pumps, and compressors; monitor gauges and control systems to ensure proper operation. • Documentation and Reporting: Keep accurate records of work performed, materials used, maintenance schedules, and any issues or incidents. Prepare reports for supervisors and managers. • Customer Service: Respond to inquiries or service requests from customers (residents, businesses, etc.) regarding utility services, providing accurate information and addressing concerns as needed. • Collaboration: Work with other utility departments, contractors, and maintenance teams to coordinate work and ensure minimal service interruption. ________________________________________ Minimum Qualifications: • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in utility maintenance, plumbing, or a related field preferred. • Experience: At least two (2) years of experience in utilities maintenance, construction, or a related field. Previous experience with water distribution and wastewater systems is highly desirable. Valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record (Class A or B CDL preferred). • Skills: o Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and utility maintenance equipment. o Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to solve problems quickly and effectively. o Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical manuals. o Strong communication skills to work with both colleagues and the public. ________________________________________ Work Conditions: • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including hot and humid environments typical of Central Florida. • May require on-call hours or shift work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and operate heavy machinery. • Regular exposure to hazardous materials and chemicals used in utilities maintenance, with proper safety gear and training provided.
