Job Overview:
A Bradenton parish is seeking a passionate and skilled Music Director to lead and enhance the music ministry. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing music for all liturgical and non-liturgical celebrations, as well as recruiting, training, and developing cantors, musicians, and choir members. The ideal candidate will have a deep appreciation for both contemporary and traditional liturgical music and a strong ability to engage the congregation through meaningful worship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and prepare music for all liturgical celebrations, in alignment with the pastor’s vision.
- Accompany services on both organ and piano.
- Lead music for weekend Masses, Holy Days, funerals, weddings, penance services, TV Masses, Christmas concerts, and other special events.
- Teach and incorporate contemporary and traditional music that reflects Vatican II theology and scriptural texts.
- Lead rehearsals with cantors, choirs, and musicians to ensure high-quality performances.
- Recruit, train, and mentor choir members, cantors, and musicians.
- Maintain professional competence through regular music practice.
- Coordinate bulletin announcements and promotional materials with parish staff.
- Participate in monthly staff and liturgy meetings to align music ministry with parish goals.
- Manage and organize music files, copyright compliance, and financial responsibilities related to the music ministry.
- Oversee the maintenance and care of musical equipment, including the organ, piano, microphones, and sound system.
- Collaborate with other Music Directors and external contacts to foster creativity and growth in parish music programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Pastor/Administrator.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Music or a related field, OR Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of experience.
- Must be a practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of liturgical music.
- Experience leading liturgical music in a parish setting.
- Basic computer proficiency for administrative tasks.
