About the Role
Marion County is seeking motivated Civil Engineers to join our team at various levels (Engineer I, Engineer II, or Senior Engineer). In this role, you’ll support public projects that impact our community — from roadway and drainage improvements to development plan reviews and permitting. What You’ll Do
- Review development plans to ensure compliance with the Marion County Land Development Code
- Conduct site visits, inspections, and investigations for county projects and citizen concerns
- Coordinate with contractors, consultants, property owners, and county departments
- Provide engineering support for design, permitting, modeling, and project management
- Supervise and oversee aspects of construction administration, including budgets, schedules, and quality control (depending on level)
- Prepare reports, technical studies, and presentations for stakeholders
- Deliver excellent customer service while supporting county policies and ordinances
Qualifications
Engineer I ($69,742.40-$108,097.60)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Master’s in Civil, Environmental or Business Administration preferred)
- Engineering Intern (EI) within one year of hire
- No experience required
Engineer II ($79,851.20-$123,760)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Master’s in Civil, Environmental or Business Administration preferred)
- Florida Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain within 6 months
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
Senior Engineer ($91,416-$141,689.60)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Master’s in Civil, Environmental, or related field preferred)
- Florida Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain within 6 months
- 4+ years relevant experience with PE or 2+ years with PE and Master’s degree
Additional Requirements:
- Valid Florida Driver’s License
- FEMA NIMS certifications (IS-100, 200, 700, 800) within 3 months of hire
- Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sedimentation Control Inspector certification within 12 months
- (If assigned to Office of County Engineer) Temporary Traffic Control certificate within 3 months
Skills We’re Looking For
- Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, codes, and permitting processes
- Ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, and deadlines
- Excellent communication skills for public presentations and stakeholder meetings
- Proficiency in relevant engineering software and Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
Work Environment
This role involves both office and field work. You may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, construction environments, and heavy traffic areas.
