Litter Control & Vegetation Maintenance Worker

We’re looking for a reliable, safety-minded team member to support our maintenance operations by assisting with tree and weed removal, litter collection, and general clean-up throughout County-maintained areas. This is a hands-on, entry-level role with steady hours, meaningful work, and a supportive team environment.
Responsibilities
Assist with tree and weed removal and general litter control along County rights-of-way.
Perform light maintenance and minor repairs on assigned equipment.
Complete required paperwork, including work reports, equipment logs, checklists, and time sheets.
Conduct daily pre-trip equipment inspections and document findings accurately.
Track and record daily mileage, areas covered, and tonnage collected.
Attend required safety trainings, classes, and meetings.
Follow all safety and health procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
Support emergency preparedness efforts and post-event clean-up when needed.
Assist with cleaning and maintaining departmental buildings and office areas.
Provide friendly, professional customer service to the public and fellow County employees.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships across departments.
Uphold the organization’s core values in all daily activities.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Two (2) years of driving experience.
At least six (6) months of experience as a lead worker or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
Valid Florida driver’s license (required at time of hire and throughout employment).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
Strong written communication skills for preparing routine reports.
Ability to communicate clearly with customers and coworkers.
Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals).
Ability to follow written, oral, and diagram-based instructions.
Problem-solving skills in standardized work situations.
Good judgment when using tools, equipment, and materials.
Ability to stay calm in stressful or potentially hazardous situations.
Strong teamwork mindset with a willingness to assist others and contribute to overall team goals.
Ability to lead others and explain work procedures if assigned as a lead worker.
