SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE:
ELECTRICIAN II(Journeyman) – an Electrician II is responsible for items described for an Electrician I but require stronger work experience within each function. Limited supervision required. May help to direct Level I Electricians in the performance of their duties and provide them with on-the-job training (OJT) as necessary. Performance expected to be at an intermediate to advanced level capacity. Promotion from Electrician I based on criteria determined by management.
Lead Designations (Lead A & B) – duties include those described those for an Electrician “A” but include the performance of some supervisory and administrative duties. Additionally, a Lead Electrician will dispense work assignments to mechanics and electricians as well as other maintenance personnel. B-Level Leads are subordinate to A-Levels.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
- Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring and equipment to ensure conformance to building & safety codes.
- Use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment.
- Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools.
- Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.
- Place conduit (pipes or tubing) inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
- Fasten small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets.
- Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit and moving and lifting heavy objects.
- Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor.
- Record and maintain production, repair, and equipment maintenance information for CMMS applications.
- Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance is necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Research and order parts using purchasing protocols.
- Construct and fabricate parts, using hand tools and specifications.
- Maintain and secure work tools, clean shop, and work areas.
- Safely operate mobile machinery certified to use.
- An Electrician “II” may help to direct Electrician “I’s” in the performance of their duties and provide on the job (OJT) training as necessary.
- Other duties as directed and assigned.
JOB SCOPE:
- This position provides specialty support to the maintenance department and departments throughout the facility.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

- This position may interact within all levels of the personnel within the organization.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understand to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, and/or schedule format.
- Knowledge of predictive maintenance protocols and tools
- Must have the ability to operate the following equipment: Hand tools, stationary equipment, vehicles.
- Must be able to use precision measuring equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence.
- Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, multitask and work independently with attention to detail.
- Ability to work against and meet deadlines.
