Job Summary

Set up, operate, and/or tend grinding and related tools used in production of steel windows and doors. Level 1 focus is on using the Abrasive Wheel

Essential Functions

    • Set up, operate, or tend Abrasive Wheel to remove excess material or burrs from surfaces, sharpen edges or corners, of metal workpieces. (80-90%)

    • Select machine tooling to be used, utilizing knowledge of machine and production requirements.

    • Mount and position tools in machine chucks, spindles, or other hand-held tools.

    • Lift and position workpieces, manually or with hoists, and secure them in hoppers or on machine tables, using clamps.

    • Set and adjust machine controls according to product specifications, utilizing knowledge of the tool operation.

    • Observe machine operations to detect any problems; make necessary adjustments to correct problems.

    • Completes process instructions on Travelers.

    • Wears required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensures safe operation of all equipment.

    • Works on special projects and performs other duties as needed. (10-20%)

Knowledge and Abilities

    • Able to interpret instructions both written and oral.

    • Able to work in a team with co-workers to resolve work-related issues.

    • Knowledge of basic shop math, including the ability to measure to 1/32”.

    • Able to learn to read, understand, and interpret production drawings and shop orders.

    • Able to maintain a 60% production efficiency rating.

    • Able to maintain an error rate less than 10%.

    • Able to work with some supervision, 30% or less of schedule.

 

Experience

    • Previous work experience in manufacturing setting preferred but not required
