Benefits Specialist

We are currently looking for a Benefits Specialist to work for a High Education company in the Pomona area. In this role you will be responsible for administering and maintaining multiple benefit plans along with the 403(b) Retirement Plan. If you have 3 plus years of experience with benefits, then we are looking for you to join the team.

Essential Functions

  • Administer on-line enrollment process for new hires, newly eligible employees, life event changes, termination and Annual Benefits Open Enrollment

  • Assist employees with enrollment, benefit questions, claims and concerns; liaison between employee and carriers. Consult management on exceptions from policy

  • Conduct employee benefit presentation for new hire orientation

  • Track, monitor and report on employee benefit eligibility under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) ensuring employees qualifying under the ACA are offered benefit enrollment

  • Monitor the COBRA process and ensure compliance

  • Reconcile benefit related invoices timely and prepare payment requisitions for management’s review and approval

  • Verify weekly Electronic Data Interface (EDI) files

  • Report all life insurance coverage changes to carrier on a monthly basis

  • Reconcile the employee and employer contribution files and prepare payment requisition for
    managements review and approval

  • Provide employees with the appropriate forms and documents

  • Verify eligibility accordingly to the Plan document

  • Assist with the annual audits

Tops Skills

  • Good working knowledge of 403(b) Retirement Plans and ERISA regulations

  • Experience with benefit related laws, regulations and trends, and adhere to all federal, state and local laws, regulations and requirements and maintain knowledge of Medicare and other related laws/regulations/etc.


  • High School Diploma required; Bachelors degree is a plus

  • 3 plus years of experience with benefits

  • Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) is a plus
