Lead CNC Operator
Summary: sets up and operates CNC horizontal and vertical milling machines and lathes to manufacture metallic and nonmetallic parts. Assists operators with troubleshooting and setup.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
Able to read and understand engineering drawings, instructions, and specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
Able to hand-edit g-code at the control.
Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to engineering drawing specifications.
Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly.
Other Responsibilities:
Observe all safety and security procedures for your area.? Use equipment and materials properly and report potentially unsafe conditions to management.? Your personal safety actions will be accountable in your performance review.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for maintaining shift production and ensuring that operator’s needs are met and questions answered.? Provides shift report that specifies deviations from planned production and notes machine-related problems.
Education and/or Experience:
Five years of machine shop experience.
Fluent with horizontal and vertical CNC mill setup
Previous supervisory experience a plus
Other Skills and Knowledge:
Ability to interact with engineering, production personnel, programmers or other personnel to resolve issues as they arise.
Willingness to learn to use Mastercam programming software to edit existing programs
Physical Demands:
The employee is regularly required to stand; occasionally required to stoop, kneel, squat or crawl and will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms and use hands to handle or feel equipment and products. Employee will need to have effective and flexible communication skills. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Pay- $16-18 an hour
