Position Summary:

The Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of payroll processing and disbursement, maintaining accurate payroll records, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and policies, and supervising assigned staff. This role plays a key part in supporting the financial operations of the organization.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Process bi-weekly and supplemental payroll, including leave accruals and balances.
  • Audit and maintain payroll records, employee action notices, and related documentation.
  • Prepare and file payroll tax reports (941, SUTA, W-2/W-3) and ensure timely submission to agencies.
  • Disburse payments for payroll liabilities and voluntary deductions (e.g., retirement, insurance, garnishments).
  • Reconcile payroll accounts in collaboration with the Accounting Supervisor.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll and general accounting matters.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Tribal, state, and federal payroll regulations.
  • Utilize accounting software and office applications to manage data and generate reports.
  • Provide backup support for other accounting functions and assist with special projects.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of payroll processing experience in a multifunctional organization.
  • Experience with 24/7 scheduling is desirable.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Strong understanding of payroll systems, accounting principles, and tax regulations.
  • Proficiency in payroll software, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations and data entry.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
