Job Title: Consultant – Agency Counsel
Shift: Morning (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
Break: 1 × 30-minute break

Job Description

The Consultant (Agency Counsel) will provide legal representation and advisory services for the Employment Security Division (ESD) under the authority of NRS 612.475. The attorney will represent the Administrator and/or the Board of Review in civil proceedings in state and federal courts, including:

• Nevada District Courts, Court of Appeals, and Supreme Court
• Federal Bankruptcy Court, Federal District Court, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and U.S. Supreme Court

Key Responsibilities:

• Represent ESD in Petitions for Judicial Review and other civil proceedings
• Attend administrative hearings as advocate or observer
• Provide legal counsel and written opinions on federal and state laws, regulations, and court decisions
• Conduct legal seminars for ESD staff and assist in drafting regulations and legislation
• Testify before the Nevada Legislature when directed
• Collaborate with Nevada Attorney General’s Office and U.S. Department of Labor

Requirements:

• Member in good standing of the State Bar of Nevada
• Licensed to practice in Federal District Courts of Nevada and Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals
• Ability to seek admission to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court
