Paving Machine Operator (2–5 Years of Experience)

Position Overview:
This position is responsible for operating asphalt paving machines to lay hot mix asphalt on roads, highways, parking lots, and other surfaces, ensuring a smooth, level, and high-quality finish. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of paving operations and can work safely and efficiently in fast-paced outdoor environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate paving machines and related equipment (e.g., asphalt paver, screed, material transfer vehicle) to apply asphalt to surfaces.
- Monitor the flow, depth, and width of the paving material for even distribution and proper compaction.
- Adjust machine settings to maintain quality, thickness, and grade in accordance with project specifications.
- Work closely with dump truck drivers and ground crew to ensure consistent material feed and smooth paving operations.
- Inspect and maintain paving equipment daily to ensure safe and proper operation.
- Follow direction from the foreman and superintendent to meet production goals and quality standards.
- Identify and address irregularities or defects in the paving surface during operation.
- Operate equipment in compliance with all company safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with other duties on the job site as directed, including laboring or general equipment operation when paving is not underway.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum OSHA 10 required.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience operating asphalt paving machines in civil construction.
- Familiarity with automated grade and slope control systems (e.g., Topcon, Trimble) is preferred.
- Knowledge of paving techniques, HMA materials, and compaction requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret job plans, grades, and staking.
- Must be physically fit, able to stand, walk, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL is an asset.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
