Position Overview:

The General Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of heavy construction equipment used in site development, roadwork, utility installation, and paving projects. The ideal candidate will have experience with multiple types of machinery and be capable of performing tasks efficiently and safely in a fast-paced outdoor environment.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Operate heavy equipment such as:
  • Excavators
  • Loaders
  • Backhoes
  • Dozers
  • Graders
  • Skid steers
  • Rollers
  • Forklifts or other site-specific machinery
  • Perform tasks including digging, grading, lifting, loading, compacting, trenching, or material handling.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and report maintenance issues.
  • Follow site plans, grade stakes, and/or GPS instructions.
  • Work closely with ground crews, flaggers, and site supervisors to complete jobs accurately and safely.
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings to avoid damage to utilities, property, or personnel.
  • Assist with manual labor and site tasks when not operating machinery.
  • Comply with all safety procedures, traffic control rules, and equipment operating standards.with the placement, raking, and smoothing of hot mix asphalt during paving operations.
  • Use tools such as lutes, rakes, shovels, and tampers to hand-finish areas where the paving machine cannot reach.
  • Clean and prepare job sites by removing debris and sweeping prior to paving.
  • Work alongside screed operators, roller operators, and dump truck drivers to ensure smooth production flow.
  • Follow direction from the paving foreman to meet grade, slope, and finish requirements.
  • Maintain safety and awareness around moving equipment, traffic, and hot materials.
  • Clean and maintain tools and equipment at the end of each shift.
  • Perform other labor-related tasks as assigned by supervisors.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum OSHA 10 required.
  • 2–5 years of experience operating heavy equipment in civil or road construction.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL and/or equipment certifications preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, grade stakes, and understand site layout.
  • Knowledge of equipment capabilities, limitations, and maintenance.
  • Physically fit to work outdoors in varied weather and jobsite conditions.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen and safety orientation.
