Position Overview:

The Mechanic with specialized knowledge of asphalt paving equipment is responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing paving machinery, heavy construction equipment, and support vehicles to ensure reliable job site operations. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working with pavers, rollers, screeds, and other paving-related machinery.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain paving equipment including:
• Asphalt pavers (e.g., Caterpillar, Vogele, Roadtec)
• Screeds and control systems (Topcon, Carlson, etc.)
• Rollers (steel drum, pneumatic)
• Material transfer vehicles (MTVs)
• Tack distributors, skid steers, and small engine tools
• Perform preventative maintenance services to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, engine, and mechanical issues in field and shop environments.
• Respond to on-site breakdowns and make field repairs when necessary.
• Maintain detailed maintenance records, service logs, and inspection reports.
• Follow all company safety procedures and ensure equipment is compliant with DOT and OSHA standards.
• Communicate effectively with operators, foremen, and managers about equipment needs and status.
• Assist in ordering parts, managing inventory, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 5+ years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, with specific experience in paving or road construction equipment.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, electrical systems, and emissions controls.
• Ability to read schematics, service manuals, and operate diagnostic tools.
• Welding and fabrication skills are a plus.
• Valid driver’s license required; CDL and/or DOT medical card preferred.
• Must be able to lift 50+ lbs, bend, crawl, and work in various weather conditions.
• Must pass drug screening and background check.
