Our client is looking for an Accounts Payable Clerk for a temporary assignment. Candidate must be computer savvy, data entry experience, detail oriented and prior AP experience is highly preferred.

To perform advanced clerical accounting work involving the processing and maintenance of accounts payable; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility; performs moderately difficult and varied clerical and bookkeeping tasks including the processing and maintenance of financial or statistical reports in the assigned department.

  • Receives general supervision from the assigned supervisor, manager, department head or designee.

  • Perform clerical accounting work involving the processing and maintenance of accounts payable and receivable records.

  • Participate in the preparation and maintenance of various accounting and statistical reports and schedules.

  • Participate in the preparation of payroll, accounts payable and/or accounts receivable; as well as control and account verification of an accounting system.

  • Post and maintain records of expenditures and accounts according to established account classifications; prepare fiscal data for use in budget preparation and financial reporting.

  • Initiate, process, and follow-up on purchase orders and requisitions.

  • Prepare or check warrants, invoices, requisitions, purchase orders and other similar documents; expedite orders as necessary.

  • Create and maintain complex filing systems to include records, reports and various other documents; open and distribute mail.

  • Respond to public and employee inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Operate a variety of office and computer equipment including fax machines, typewriters and copy machines.

  • Assist other department staff members as necessary.

  • Organize and prepare spreadsheets.

  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers.

  • Supporting word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Basic principles of accounting, clerical and bookkeeping work.

  • Principles and procedures of financial record keeping and reporting.

  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.

  • Modern office practices, procedures and equipment.

  • Municipal accounting system requirements and procedures.

  • Operate a typewriter, calculator, computer terminal, cash register, and other office machines as required.

  • Maintain financial and statistical records.

  • Perform varied clerical work.

  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Prepare and maintain a variety of financial and statistical records and reports.

  • Interpret and explain department policies and procedures.

  • Apply bookkeeping and financial record-keeping principles to the maintenance of financial and accounting records.

  • Establish effective working relationships with other employees and the public.

  • Respond to requests and inquiries from other employees and the public.

  • Work independently in the absence of supervision.

Experience and Training

Two (2) years of increasingly responsible accounting clerical experience, which included duties comparable to those of an Accounting Clerk and extended working knowledge in Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. High School diploma or equivalent education.
