Senior Field Engineer must have experience with video and audio transmissions, satellite transmissions, and some distant learning technology. At a minimum they must have current certifications as Cisco TelePresence Solutions Specialist and also Polycom Certified Videoconferencing Engineer. They should have a solid understanding of IP and ISDN networks. They
will need to be able to develop formal test plans and then be able to perform these tests and document and report on all test results. They need to be able to provide comprehensive technical designs, technical drafting, technical documentation, and technical support to project engineers as well as to be a higher level tier support for issues that need to be escalated. They also need to be able to work with the customers other organizations as well as various manufacturer’s for testing and
problem resolution.
2| Organizational Relationships: The Senior Field Engineer will report to the VTC Program Manager as well as interfacing with the COTR and other members of the SSA VTC Team as well as the video team. They will also need to be able to work with the Solutions Architect Team to accomplish testing and to assist in trouble resolution.
3| Depth of Knowledge Required: Candidate must have a very solid background with Polycom and Cisco/Tandberg equipment along with network experience. This should include both operational and engineering experience with a minimum of seven years of in-depth video and network related experience.

4| Authority and Decision Making Capabilities: Candidate will be autonomous to a certain degree as they will be provided projects to research and implement and/or equipment to evaluate and make recommendations about. They will need to report to the VTC Program Manager but will also interface quite often with the COTR, the agency staff, and the staff. They will need to offer their “expert” opinion since this can also be viewed as a subject matter expert (SME).
5| Leadership & Supervisory Responsibilities: Although not a supervisor, the Senior Field Engineer will be responsible to offer technical support to the staff as well as to attend customer meetings as a representative and SME of the team.
6| Internal & External Relationship Responsibilities: As noted earlier, Senior Field Engineer (SFE) will need to meet with agency management staff to report on trouble status. They need to develop, implement, perform, and document all essential Quality Control (QC) measures and protocols including workmanship inspections and evaluations. They need to perform preinstallation
set up and testing; post installations calibration and commissioning; technical support for lower level engineers. They need to perform testing in agency provided facilities. Testing and implementation may require after hours and weekend work.
