Terms of Employment: Full-time

Independently, manages, maintains, expands and services assigned accounts by placing employee benefit programs for clients and prospects in accordance with objectives, procedures, and policies of the company. Works as an active team member to achieve sales, retention and profitability goals for assigned client(s); and oversees client specific regulatory compliance requirements. Provides technical support and analysis to accounts as assigned. Provides training, guidance and direction to other staff. Serves as resource for trends, practices and policies. Assists supervisor with managing major projects, business development initiatives and the overall operation of the department. (Generally assigned larger clients and resolves the most complex problems)

Essential Functions:

  • Manages several client projects simultaneously with varying scope and size including renewals, feasibility studies, transition to alternate funding arrangement and profitability.

  • Provides on-going communication to clients on project status, timing and deliverables, and issue resolution.

  • Implements requested changes and prepares confirmation documentation to the carrier.

  • Develops and implements benefits communication; attends employee meetings as requested by client.

  • Reviews client contracts and amendments and delivers to client.

  • Ensures that client service issues are promptly resolved.

  • As appropriate, recommends additional coverage or products to increase revenue to the practice.

  • Manages technical and compliance issues (e.g. Plan Docs, SPDs, Form 5500 Reports, Summary Annual Reports).

  • Monitors legislative updates and proactively advises clients of relevant legislative issues and market place updates.

  • Ensures that client data and revenue received is current and accurate to ensure proper maintenance of agency management system.

  • Responsible for collecting Schedule A Reports and working with CPA to ensure timely completion of Form 5500 Report and Summary Annual Reports.

  • Ensures client files are current and in order.

  • Consistently participates as a cooperative, proactive team member in projects involving other associates throughout the practice and office.

  • Assesses client needs, provides creative solutions and educates client on the alternative solutions and provides solution based consulting.

  • Assists in meeting revenue growth and retention goals.

  • Manages policy renewal process including strategic planning for clients, objective setting, plan design changes, vendor changes, annual re-enrollment meetings and participant communication and scheduling of vendor meetings.

  • Conducts benefits review meetings, Request for Proposal, submission and response evaluation, analysis, and final recommendation to existing clients in efforts to retain existing clients’ satisfaction.

  • Prepares renewal report packages and effectively presents and discusses current issues with clients.

  • Develops renewal projections, funding rates and reserve estimates for self-funded cases. Prices plan changes for self-funded clients.

  • Explains and presents complex underwriting principles and strategies in an understandable and meaningful way to internal staff and clients.

  • Provides technical support to accounts, which include large and self-insured clients, renewal analysis, marketing stop-loss, third-party administrative services, case management and claims audit services, pricing plan changes, reserve estimates, financial analysis and review of existing and placement new of coverages and programs.

  • Performs the duties of an Account Executive on selected accounts.

  • Creates, maintains relationships and identifies sales opportunities with clients and key carrier contacts through business development efforts, may include conferences, seminars, networking events, sponsorships and expo/trade shows.

  • Serves as a resource and provides training, guidance and direction to other staff.

  • Assists the Benefit Consulting Manager with management of the overall operation of the Benefit Consulting Practice.

  • Creates exhibits and reports to illustrate the underwriting and financial aspects of designated projects.

  • Develops claim reporting templates and formulas, analyze claim report data. Prepares claims analysis summary.

  • Assists with designing benefit programs for funding.

  • Analyzes and summarizes insured year-end and terminal accounting statements.

  • Creates and communicates annual stewardship reports on assigned clients.

  • Keeps abreast of trends and techniques, and researches and develops new, improved selling tools and aids to maintain a competitive status for the agency within the industry.

  • Evaluates carrier relationships on a regular basis, always with a “win-win” approach. Looks to expand with new carriers if it will create new opportunities.

  • Implements and develops standardized work processes, tools and methodologies within the practice.

  • Participates in developing annual department sales & retention goals, budgets and strategic planning.

  • Possesses a positive, service-oriented attitude towards agents, clients, insureds, and employees within the company

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Business or Finance.

  • 5-7 years progressive Employee Benefit program experience required.

  • Combination of education & job-related experience equivalent will be considered.

  • Life and Health Insurance License required or must obtain within 90 days from date of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of insurance brokerage business and medical, life and disability experience and underwriting exhibits.

  • Demonstrated ability to think big picture, identify issues and apply technical, analytical, critical thinking, and judgment skills for solutions.

  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting employee benefit programs.

  • Knowledge of self-insured programs preferred.

  • Highly self-motivated, ability to work independently, goal and people oriented.

  • Strong relationship building, oral and written communication, and presentation skills.

  • Proficient in PC skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the following: o customer service orientation o detail and results oriented o quality management o organization and prioritization
