This company is one of the premier processed produce distributors in the State of Hawaii and has the capabilities to deliver branded products across the State. This company is well established within the retail and institutional account segments with deep relationships with customers & suppliers that span decades long, in some cases, well over 60 years. As a professional, business to business service company, they are known for several things.

  • Produce processing in a GFSI Certified facility. We are a one stop shop for all fresh cut produce requirements. The benefits of their services is that their customers have the ability to save on time and product yield – while also receiving a food safe product, cut to specifications, with 99-100% utilization!

  • Presence at 100% of all major supermarkets in the State of Hawaii. They act as the local delivery and merchandising provider for companies with refrigerated product service needs and have the capacity to include many more. They specialize in delivering products that require temperature control and shelf-life awareness.

POSITION PURPOSE:

This position will perform assigned sprout growing responsibilities to achieve daily orders in an orderly and efficient manner, with attention to food safety.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform daily pre/post operation equipment set-up and storage

  • Perform standard operating procedures (SOP) associated with growing sprout products, which includes seed receiving and storage, seed screening and preparation, seed sanitation, sprout growing and monitoring, and product disinfection.

  • Perform interval sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOP) for cleaning and sanitizing processing equipment and facility

  • Prepare and verify chemical solutions

  • Record process information on operations forms

  • Perform minor maintenance on equipment

  • Help processing sector as assigned on work schedule

  • Operate production areas within food safety and customer requirements

  • Ensure operational safety standards are met within team and department

  • Ability to work in a manner that complies within all Company operational safety, food safety, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

 

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Regular attendance in conformance with the Company standards is essential to the successful performance of this position. Associates with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

 

Due to the cyclical nature of our industry, associates may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the Company. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.

 

Upon employment, all associates are required to fully comply with HPC Foods, Ltd rules and regulations for the safe and effective operation of our facilities. Associates who violate Company rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.

 

 

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS:

In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the manager based upon the particular requirements of the Company:

 

  • Additional duties as necessary and assigned.

 

WORK HOURS: Sunday – Saturday 5:00 am – 3:00 pm (Five-day work week)

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the English language.

  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written. Position entails talking with co-workers, guests, and outside vendors.

  • Computer skills, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Excel, and e-mail functions helpful.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work tasks are performed at the Sprout Department. Temperature is controlled by Company environmental systems which varies from cool to humid, and occurs in a wet, growing environment.

  • Shift involves standing and walking for an extended period. Repetitive bending, pushing, lifting, carrying, scrubbing, and planting hand movement. Medical clearance to don a chemical respirator is required.

  • Must be able to exert well-paced ability to maneuver between functions occurring simultaneously.

  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs.

  • Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity.

  • Speaking and listening occur continuously in the process of communicating with customers, supervisors and other associates.

  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.

  • Ability to work primarily with fingers to pick, pinch, type and carry out substantial movements (motions) of the wrists and hands as well.

  • Requires manual dexterity to use and operate all necessary equipment.

  • Must have finger dexterity to be able to operate equipment such as scales, measuring equipment, agitation tools, planting tools, cleaning equipment, calculators, and other growing equipment as needed.

 

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

 

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED or equivalent work experience

 

Experience

  • Farming and/or food manufacturing experience preferred, but not required

 

Licenses or Certificates

  • Valid Driver’s License and forklift experience preferred

 

Grooming

All associates must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.
