Description:

 

A sales development representative helps generate and facilitate sales for a company. They may be involved in initiating contact with potential customers through phone calls, known as outbound prospecting/cold-calling, or they may respond to inquiries that are generated through advertisements, known as inbound lead follow-up. It's common for them to communicate with potential customers by phone and by email, although they may also meet with potential customers.

 

Their objective is to identify the potential needs of the customer, qualify their interest and viability, and create a relationship that will help drive the sale.  Once they have generated a solid lead, the sales development representative will connect the lead to a salesperson. They may set up in-person meetings, or they may arrange for other methods of communication, such as an email follow-up or a phone call. Their objective is to effectively and efficiently connect potential customers to sales staff so that their company profits through sales.

 

Requirements:

This is an inside sales position where the employee will call into a targeted list of accounts provided by our client.  The market we are going after is the hospitality industry, so most of the calls will be to hotels.  We are trying to see if these hotels have any sustainability goals, and if so, we offer funding solutions to help them acquire the assets needed to make capital improvements.  The goal is to find accounts that have a need and are interested scheduling an appointment with the client’s sales rep.  This is a “pre-sales” type of role, so it is not the job of the caller to close the sale.  It is to get a foot in the door for the sales rep to go in and finalize the sale.  We are targeting C-Level contacts – so we are trying to set appointments with CEO, COO, CFO, etc.  Initial calls don’t have to start with the C-Level and there is a certain level of networking that can be used.

 

We are looking for someone with some prior sales experience, as opposed to customer service experience.  We are also looking for good computer and writing skills.  We use Salesforce as our CRM and notes are taken for every call.  If an appointment is generated, the inside sales rep will need to summarize the information gathered from the call into a one page write up that will be sent to the sales rep for them to use to get ready for the appointment.
