A commercial and industrial (full service) mechanical contracting company local to Greenville, SC is hiring a mechanical project manager. They win bids to work on heavy commercial and industrial projects from the engineering and design of the products/equipment/building to the set up and install. They are a $36 million company and have a 2% turnover rate.
They are hiring a Mechanical Contract/Commercial Construction Project Manager to oversee a variety of projects, effectively manage teams to meet project deadlines, be organized and punctual, and have experience in dealing with clients, staff, and vendors. An ideal candidate will have outstanding interpersonal skills and have experience in the commercial (mechanical) industry.
The project manager will have a mechanical engineering degree or background knowledge (piping design, HVAC) but their day-to-day role is project management with commercial construction projects. They will join a team of 5-7 other project managers.
Description: Management of the day-to-day operations of assigned projects to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of materials, equipment, labor, and subcontractors during the installation phase of the project while helping to meeting or exceeding the customer’s and the company’s objectives relative to cost, schedule, quality, and safety.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
•Develop a preliminary mechanical project schedule and submit to customers and/or project managers for input into an overall project schedule
•Help to establish and communicate anticipated workforce requirements for planning and recruiting purposes
•Work with vendors to procure all prime and rough material, including subcontractors and leased equipment
•Ensure all material, equipment, and personnel arrive at job on schedule to maximize our productivity performance during construction
•Support the other project manager(s) with the direction, review, and approval of relative system designs, cost, and changes on design/build projects.
•Plan and direct the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment required by contract
•Prepare budgets, support bid activities, and assist with contract negotiations
•Lead all negotiation activities with subcontractors in the development of subcontract agreements
•Support the company sales efforts by making recommendations and building relationships with customers
Top 5 “must have” technical skills for the position:
1.Mechanical Engineering degree
2.Current project manager on mechanical design/construction projects in the industrial or commercial industries OR mechanical engineer with 3-5 years of experience with piping, design, HVAC and has great interpersonal skills
3.At least 3-5 years of experience with mechanical design
4.Experience with field operations, costing, and contract best practices
5.Communication skills
Ideal candidate: mechanical engineer who works for a mechanical contracting company managing construction projects, someone who is already a PM in the commercial construction business and has a degree/background in mechanical engineering.
Also open to: a mechanical engineer who has 3-5 years of experience with piping design/HVAC and has really outstanding interpersonal skills and wants to be a project manager.
Travel: no non-local travel required but you will have to be at the construction site(s)
