Senior Mechanical/Machinery Designer

Pay range: $30-40/hr

Location: Mobile, AL

This position is 100% onsite

IMPORTANT: Must have forest products or similar industry experience

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Education: Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting

Experience: Minimum of 10 years of industrial experience in heavy equipment and machinery design, with an emphasis on the forest products industry. At least 5 years of experience using SolidWorks or equivalent 3D design software.

Job Summary: Join this agile, multidisciplinary design team as you support the forest products industry. In this role, you'll design custom equipment using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. You'll produce assembly drawings, fabrication details, and installation packages. Collaborate closely with internal teams and external vendors to develop high-performance, cost-effective solutions that align with our customers' capital project needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design custom equipment using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

• Create detailed fabrication, assembly, and installation drawings.

• Participate in 3D model reviews and quality assurance processes.

• Provide technical support during the fabrication and installation of new equipment.

• Conduct field measurements in existing facilities.

• Mentor and guide junior drafting personnel in the department.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Proficiency with structural steel shapes and other construction materials.

• Knowledge of steel fabrication techniques and methodologies.

• Familiarity with power transmission components and OSHA guarding systems.

• Understanding of bulk material handling systems.

• Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and control devices.

• Ability to create precise installation documents based on vendor equipment drawings.

• Strong time management and task estimation abilities.

• Familiarity with design and CAD drafting standards.

• Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD and 3D design software, such as SolidWorks or Inventor.

• Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively in virtual teams and build strong relationships.

• Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.

• Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
