Job Title: Project/Design Engineer

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Location: Irvington, AL 100% onsite

Salary: $80-110K/yr

 

Job Summary:

Join a multi-disciplinary team responsible for designing custom equipment for the forest products industry. Support the development of purchase, fabrication, and installation quality documents. Collaborate closely with inter-company teams and alliance vendors to develop high-performing and cost-competitive solutions to meet our customers' capital project demands.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

Primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Plan and schedule project deliverables from sales drawings and specifications.

  • Perform calculations to validate sales specs, select power transmission components, and size steel members.

  • Coordinate with customers regarding design reviews and approval packages.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to designers.

  • Conduct and participate in 3D model reviews and other quality processes.

  • Offer technical support during the fabrication and installation of new equipment.

  • Conduct field measurements of existing facilities.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of bulk material handling systems.

  • Familiarity with common structural steel shapes and other construction materials.

  • Understanding of steel fabrication techniques and methods.

  • Knowledge and application of power transmission components.

  • Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and control devices.

  • Ability to accurately estimate the completion of assigned tasks.

  • Familiarity with design and CAD drafting standards.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Working knowledge of 2D AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks.

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to develop virtual teams and maintain relationships.

  • Capability to work with minimal to no supervision.

 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering

 

Experience: 5-10 years of relevant industrial experience in heavy equipment & machinery design.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.

  • Capability to climb stairs and ladders.
