Entry Level Packaging Engineer 12 Month Contract

I am currently recruiting for a client in the Oxford, NC area for an Entry Level Packaging Engineer for a 12 month contract position to help them through a supplier transition. 




Responsible for the engineering development of vendor transition and value engineering packages within specified cost, design and timing parameters for product group(s) assigned by management. Has overall responsibility for all technical matters related to packaging within the assigned product groups.









  • Originates accurate and appropriate specifications for all componentry with due regard for the

requirements of vendors and all relevant internal departments. Ensures timely issuance.

  • Carries out or arranges appropriate testing for componentry in order to ensure functionality and compliance with established standards.

  • Reviews, critiques and approves all function related vendor submission, e.g., blueprints, unit cavities, etc., making

on-site visits as necessary, coordinates the provision of aesthetic approvals in order to achieve scheduled delivery


  • Reports status of developments as required by management, visiting N.Y. office to do so when pertinent. By

exception advises management of alert conditions as they arise.

  • Assists Manufacturing sites in evaluating the effect of new or revised packages on production lines and

recommends the acceptance or rejection of new packages accordingly. When a system is rejected, proposes

alternative methods of successfully completing the deficient operation.

  • Works with Purchasing, Production, Value Analysis, and other departments in the revision of existing packaging

components to reduce purchasing costs, enhance manufacture or any other means for cost reduction.

  • Initiate all Bills of materials, including any and all changes, updates and dual path options required.

  • Create and process all Package Testing lab submission forms and sampling required to initiate and complete formal testing in R&D.

  • Liaise with N.Y. Office to process all color and copy approvals to ensure all key teams are aligned prior to start of component production.

  • Create, issue and approve all specifications for components and finished goods for categories assigned.

  • Create and issue TOPs pallet patterns, determine and load packaging logistics data.

  • Author and publish Filling & Assembly instructions to be used by Manufacturing.









  • 1 year industry or internship.







  • Knowledge of Packaging for cosmetics, toiletries and fragrance.

  • Knowledge of component materials (limitations, specifications, uses, costs)

  • Knowledge of packaging machinery and processes.

  • Ability to analyze components for function, fit and mechanical compatibility

  • Basic computer knowledge, spreadsheets, databases. Proficiency in Excel and SAP a plus.

  • Ability to communicate technical data to leadership.







  • Bachelor of Science/Engineering Degree (Packaging Degree preferred)
