Summary
The Product Development group is seeking an Optical Engineer for LED lighting products. The self motivated, hands-on engineer must have > 2 year experience in optical characterization and new product design. The candidate should have a track record of successful optical design achievements (preferably for LED systems). The candidate will work within cross functional teams to characterize, design and qualify LED based lighting products for high volume manufacturing.
Responsibilities include optical design, acquiring and presenting detailed optical results based on experimentation and simulations, setting up and maintain state of the art optical measurement equipments with data logging and data acquisition system.
The candidate will be a resourceful problem solver with a strong technical background and analytical skills who is able to come up with innovative solutions and displays a “whatever it takes attitude”.
Responsibilities:
Experienced in the use of optical test equipment such as spectrometer, integrating sphere, gonio-photometers
Experienced in the techniques of measuring luminance, illuminance, intensity, flux, light intensity distribution and chromaticity coordinates.
Experienced in LED and lighting system characterization
Excellent analytical skills
Provide training to other personnel to improve overall capabilities and knowledge in the team
Coordinate all activities in the Optics Lab. This includes scheduling and performing various optical tests and keeping the lab organized and maintained
Responsible for all equipment calibration and maintenance, and insure that all work instructions are updated regularly
Qualifications:
Minimum BS in Optical Engineering. MS preferred
2+ years experience in Lighting systems, LEDs, Laser/Laser Diodes with extensive experience in laboratory testing environment
Experience with optical simulations using Lightools, ASAP would be a plus
Experience with mechanical design (Solidworks, AutoCAD) would be a plus
Proficient with MS Office tools including Excel and Word or equivalents
Ability to work independently under aggressive timelines and date driven schedules, be self-sufficient while knowing when to ask for help
Strong written and verbal communication skills. This person should be well organized and detail oriented to maintain the lab and be able to prioritize multiple test requests as needed
Self-starter with a strong drive to take initiative and learn
