POSITION PURPOSE

This position will be cross-trained and deployed to assist in all technical areas within the Financial Aid Office. These areas may include but are not limited to being responsible for supporting processing of the Alternative and Federal student/parent Loan programs within the Financial Aid Office. This position will also support the processes and procedures for verification of documents required to complete the financial aid application process of selected students. The position reports to the Director of Operations and Compliance and serves prospective and current undergraduate and graduate students and their families. Provides assistance to the Senior Financial Aid Data Specialist as needed to ensure smooth operation of disbursement and reconciliation processing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Run all processes in the company Workday student database to generate files for transmission to the Department of Education for financial aid processing, this may include loan data for changes, cancellations or reinstatements and/or processing mandated reconciliation of state and federal aid

  • Communicate with students regarding financial aid requirements and with other departments (Bursar, Credit Counseling, Office of the Registrar, Graduate Schools, and International Student Resource Center) for reports, required budgets, and other information required to complete the file or requisite applications

OTHER OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review Loaded ISIR report and assign checklist to incomplete or rejected applications and send follow up email notifications as needed

  • Review documentation and clear holds as students submit action items

  • Other duties as assigned, particularly changing processes and procedures quickly to respond to changing office needs and financial aid regulations

  • Assist with student inquiries by phone and in person

  • Maintains contact with students and solicits feedback for improved services

  • Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives

  • Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow

  • Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals

  • Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • This position requires the ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment

  • Functional knowledge of Workday Financial Aid or some component of the Workday Student Environment

  • Computer proficiency with MS Office products including Access, Excel, and Word

  • Exceptional organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, and attention to detail

  • Must have ability to work effectively with changing priorities in a high stress, fast paced environment

  • Must have ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students/parents from a variety of diverse backgrounds

  • Candidate must not be in default on Title IV loans

  • Bachelor’s degree or three years of progressively responsible experience

  • Three years of progressively responsible experience required

  • 1 year of financial aid experience including experience with federal and other processing systems preferred
